And the message is clear,
this could be the year for the real thing.

Sing "Alleluia"

We are very happy that singer Amy Londyn will grace our wedding with her beautiful voice. She will sing Psalm 148 a capella and also Franz Schubert's "Ave Maria" accompanied by the violinists of Yut and The Hot Four.

Storck's translation used by Schubert"Hymn to the Virgin" by Sir Walter Scott
Ave Maria! Jungfrau mild,
Erhöre einer Jungfrau Flehen,
Aus diesem Felsen starr und wild
Soll mein Gebet zu dir hin wehen.
Wir schlafen sicher bis zum Morgen,
Ob Menschen noch so grausam sind.
O Jungfrau, sieh der Jungfrau Sorgen,
O Mutter, hör ein bittend Kind!
Ave Maria!

Ave Maria! Unbefleckt!
Wenn wir auf diesen Fels hinsinken
Zum Schlaf, und uns dein Schutz bedeckt
Wird weich der harte Fels uns dünken.
Du lächelst, Rosendüfte wehen
In dieser dumpfen Felsenkluft,
O Mutter, höre Kindes Flehen,
O Jungfrau, eine Jungfrau ruft!
Ave Maria!

Ave Maria! Reine Magd!
Der Erde und der Luft Dämonen,
Von deines Auges Huld verjagt,
Sie können hier nicht bei uns wohnen,
Wir woll'n uns still dem Schicksal beugen,
Da uns dein heil'ger Trost anweht;
Der Jungfrau wolle hold dich neigen,
Dem Kind, das für den Vater fleht.
Ave Maria!
Ave Maria! maiden mild!
Listen to a maiden's prayer!
Thou canst hear though from the wild;
Thou canst save amid despair.
Safe may we sleep beneath thy care,
Though banish'd, outcast and reviled –
Maiden! hear a maiden's prayer;
Mother, hear a suppliant child!
Ave Maria

Ave Maria! undefiled!
The flinty couch we now must share
Shall seem this down of eider piled,
If thy protection hover there.
The murky cavern's heavy air
Shall breathe of balm if thou hast smiled;
Then, Maiden! hear a maiden's prayer,
Mother, list a suppliant child!
Ave Maria!

Ave Maria! stainless styled.
Foul demons of the earth and air,
From this their wonted haunt exiled,
Shall flee before thy presence fair.
We bow us to our lot of care,
Beneath thy guidance reconciled;
Hear for a maid a maiden's prayer,
And for a father hear a child!
Ave Maria.

Beautiful Strings

At the ceremony, we are very lucky to have two members of Yut and The Hot Four perform a traditional selection of classical scores. Here is the entire ensemble performing "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)" by Eurythmics.

Change of Location for Rehearsal Dinner

If you are one of the few people who are required to attend the wedding rehearsal on Friday May 2 at 4 PM, please note that we have chosen a new location for the rehearsal dinner for later that evening.
The Brazen Head is a neighborhood bar on Atlantic Avenue. We will meet there at 8 PM. They will have a section in the front cordoned off for us, everyone in our party will be given a wristband so we can run a tab, and we will be allowed to order out from Fatoosh and Damascus. The food at both places is great.

Marriage License In Hand

Though our marriage will be, first and foremost, a religious sacrament, the State stills requires a marriage license. Fair enough, so with $35, photo IDs, and our best manners, we walked over to Brooklyn's City Hall and obtained one. This was, clearly, a joyful event. The next step in this process is for our priest to fill it out after the service and mail it in. Hurrah!

Please Use the Right Code For Your Hotel Reservation

Tracy Michele and I learned that some guests were having trouble with the proper discount being applied to their room at the Nu Hotel. The link has been embedded again in the previous post (below), and is included here also.
If you have any questions, or if there are any problems using it, let us know please.

New Location for Wedding

                       "Wait .... what? The wedding is being moved?"

The location for the wedding is no longer the chapel on Congress Street! Something came up and the service will be conducted in the church itself, instead. Same time, (almost) same place, same couple, same everything else --- just go around front to the main entrance on Court Street. It's the big double doors, you won't miss it.

A Poem by Henry Cholmondley-Pennell

Came across this poem on Christmas Day and read it to Tracy Michele. We may have it printed up for the wedding, with all the particulars of the spacing and punctuation.

TO A LADY WITH A RING

SWEET Valentine, dear lady mine,
Love lays an offering at your shrine ---
Yet mete not by this span of gold
That which would reach thro' years untold,
Would burn when life itself is cold.
Not with the dazzling fitful gleam
That gilds the stripling's fever-dream
(For love --- the dream-love of the boy ---
Is but a glittering summer toy) ---
But with the strong and steady glow,
But with the deep and tender flow,
That a man's heart alone can know,
Pouring his soul out at her feet
Whose smile can make all dark things sweet ...
Love undivided close and dear
With ready arm to guide and cheer,
His breast her shield from every fear :
Love changeless still, where change is rife,
Thro' storm and calm, thro' peace and strife,
For grief for joy, for death for life !
Love breathed in one soft whisper --- wife.
